New Mine Biodiversity and Water Stewardship Baseline Planning

Our client: An international mining corporation

The brief and what we did: Our team conducted an initial baseline assessment of biodiversity and water stewardship for a new greenfield mine development. In collaboration with ecologists, hydrologists and hydrogeologists, we performed a comprehensive desk-based review of existing data, followed by a site visit. We also integrated the requirements of applicable regulations and multilateral development bank requirements.

The outcome: A prioritised roadmap for a baseline survey programme was prepared, including scopes of work for urgent field studies and enabling tasks.
In collaboration with the client, survey teams were quickly mobilised to seize opportunities and avoid missing seasonal survey periods. This avoided delays to the collection of baseline data, essential for informing project concept and design studies, as well as the preparation of consenting documents.
