Our client: Eldorado Gold
The brief and what we did: We developed labour management policies and practices to support a complex greenfield and existing mining development in Europe. The development had a legacy of industrial action, so the new procedures needed to comply with multilateral development bank requirements (including IFC and EBRD).
A comprehensive screening process for contractors and supplier labour management governance was established, bolstered by a risk-based assurance and reporting programme, as well as capacity building support. Labour audits of prioritised contractors were conducted and a worker grievance procedure put in place.
The outcome: The screening system was established to facilitate the onboarding process and conduct retrospective reviews of over 50 contractors for a €1 billion capital expenditure project; this will be applied to an existing operating mine. The worker grievance mechanism has been established for more than 2,000 employees.
