The brief and what we did: We collaborated with the geotechnical services company to plan and implement a large-scale contaminated land investigation involving the assessment of over 140 individual sites, within an area with a complex range of legacy contamination issues. Contamination assessment criteria were developed, integrating client, regulatory and international standards. Training of field staff was undertaken, as well as quality assurance procedure development.
This training and capacity building enabled the survey team to undertake the field sampling in compliance with quality requirements. Sites were also screened using field observations and laboratory analytical data to provide a risk-based evaluation of contamination.
The outcome: Project execution and lender compliance risks were identified, with corresponding practical recommendations to enable direct communication with the project developer and ensure that implementation could be tracked.
