Multilateral Development Bank Sustainability Trends and Horizon Scanning

Our client: European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD)

The brief and what we did: Our team analysed the current and emerging legal and soft law sustainability trends to support EBRD’s review and revision of their Environmental and Social Policy.

Over 80 ESG and sustainability frameworks, standards and regulations were reviewed and analysed, involving the assessment of 208 ESG/sustainability thematic trends. A total of 15 macro-level cross-cutting trends and 50 thematic trends were analysed and considered relevant to the EBRD policy revision. Through further analysis and discussions with the EBRD teams, we assessed the context of the trends and extent of their alignment with the EBRD environmental and social policy.

The outcome: We provided EBRD with concise summaries of the relevant sustainability legal and soft law trends, focusing on reporting sustainability reporting, climate, biodiversity, human rights, due diligence and sustainable finance.
