Livelihood and Biodiversity Restoration

Our client: The operator of a new ~800km, €multi-billion energy infrastructure link to Europe, spanning three countries (including two EU member states).

The brief and what we did: Our team planned and implemented a livelihood restoration and biodiversity programme in three countries. This involved over 40,000 affected land users/owners with components to assess reinstatement of affected land, agronomic monitoring and assistance and vulnerable persons support, to supplement an existing compensation plan. The bio-restoration aspects included an intensive soil erosion control project, reforestation, afforestation, marine translocation, seagrass restoration and artificial reef components supported by extensive stakeholder engagement. The programme was audited by three external groups, including a Livelihood Completion Audit.

The outcome: The project was successfully completed with positive audits from those monitoring on behalf of the financing lenders, including the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), European Investment Bank (EIB), and several European export credit agencies and commercial banks.
